The Digital Religion Research Award<\/em> recognizes outstanding and innovative scholars working in the field of Digital Religion studies. Dr. Trattner\u2019s award-winning article \u2014 \u00abBetween Feminist Solidarity and ‘Bible-Verse-Throwers’: Catholic Feminist Activists on Social Media and Experiences of Agency<\/a>\u00bb \u2014 was published in the Journal of Media, Religion and Digital Culture in 2024, and explores the perceived agency of Catholic feminist activists on social media.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kathrin Trattner will hold an award lecture which is entitled “From Agency to Algorithms and Back Again: Changing Forms of Feminist Activism Against Conservative Christian Gender Norms on Social Media”. The lecture will take place on July 2, 2026, at the University of Sapenzia in Rome, Italy. The event is held from 4 pm to 5:30 pm in the Frugoni Room on the third floor of the Faculty of Letters building, on the campus of the University of Sapenzia, with a reception to follow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Trattner’s lecture will explore how religious feminist activists experience agency on social media by navigating platform affordances and fostering communities of solidarity. As digital platforms have become increasingly algorithmized in recent years, activism has shifted from community-based practices toward visibility-driven strategies, reshaping how digital religion and feminist activism can be studied.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
